The name of Étienne Capoue had appeared on this site several times in the past but with no real substance to the links that have come through in the last 18 months or so. However, the press are now certain that Tottenham have agreed to sign the 25 year old from Toulouse with the clubs having supposedly agreed a fee in the region of £8.5m.
The report originated in France with Toulouse President Olivier Sadran claiming that the deal had been agreed and it could even be confirmed by Spurs very shortly with Capoue rumoured to be flying in for a medical today.
The French international plays primarily as a defensive midfielder but it’s said that he is equally at home in the centre of defence and could therefore answer concerns over an early injury crisis at the back. However, in an increasingly overcrowded midfield it could also spell the end for Scott Parker or Tom Huddlestone and maybe even both.
Etienne has been with Toulouse for the whole of his professional career and after breaking into the French side in 2012 he now has five full caps to his name – scoring once. It’s an interesting purchase but what’s your take on his potential arrival?
Get another striker and CB as well and if Bale wants to go then let him. Take that huge amount of money. No point keeping him if he wants to go, but if he wants to stay then let him.
Souds like he would be a great signing. Hope its very soon as we have injured centre backs at present and once they are fit we would have an unbeatable midfield with him, Paulinho Sandro, Dembele, Holtby and Sigursson.
This is a good signing which allows us to offload certain players. My main concern is apart from a left back is goal scorers and creative players. If Bale does leave we lose goals and assists. We need to sign players who creative and have an eye for goal, as we struggled to break teams down last year, especially at home. A front three of Bernard, Lamela and either Lennon or Chadli would certainly have speed, goals and creativity, as well as providing support for Soldado. This does depend on the formation AVB wants to deploy ? If Bale is to leave, i hope Levy doesn’t wait until the deal is done before trying to replace him, as by then it will most likely be to late to sign the right players !!
