Yesterday was predictably quiet on the transfer front from a Spurs point of view but as the day progressed there were isolated reports that the club was looking at a loan deal involving alleged long term target Hulk.

The fee for a season long deal was quoted at a mighty £10m for the Zenit forward but still the stories persisted. Meanwhile, the future of Demba Ba at Chelsea was also subject to much conjecture with claims that Arsenal were enquiring, while it’s thought that the Stamford Bridge club were only interested in loaning out their player to West Ham or Roma.

However, according to The Metro, Spurs failed with a last minute attempt to bring Ba to the club – a £5m offer was tabled but the deal, like so many before it, simply ran out of time.

Can this really be plausible? And if so was back up needed or are the club moving forward with Soldado, Lamela, Defoe – and the forgotten man Adebayor?

  1. spurs are very much a work in progress.in our un team there must be some who don’t even speak English.the failure to sign a striker must affect us badly.our hopes for a top 3 can be badly damaged.

    • I’m ok with Ade and Defoe as backups. not sold on Soldado, but he does come with a very good record. definitely overpaid for him i believe. we really needed a worldclass 10 for soldado to come good. he’s not the link up kind of striker. and after seeing giroud bully us, we should have worked harder at bring in Ba last year.

  2. NOT REALLY DEMBA BA BUT NEED—-HULK HE IS MAN TO REPLACE TO BALE ALL TIME ATTAKING STYLE AND BOX TO BOX ON LEFT SIDE AND RIGHT SIDED LAMELA (MIXTURE LENNON BALE ATTAKING STYLE)—IN 4-2-3-1 & 4-3-3——LLORIS–WALKER–VER–CHIRICHES–ROSE(OR KABOUL AVALIBLE ON ATTAKING OR DEFENSIVE POSITION VERTOGHEN ON LEFT BACK OR CB)—–SANDRO–PAULINHO–HOLTBY (OR ERIKSON )–LAMELA–HULK–SOLDADO sadlly we miss say hulk but possible on loan?

  3. Would’ve been nice to have had Ba, better off than a 10 mil loan for a winger/striker as Hulk seems to be.
Cant imaging Chelsea would’ve let go for 5 mil –
Adebayor needs to step up to the mark this season or this could be his last contract ever.
I can’t imagine anyone taking a punt on him after another season like last year

  4. Yes, Ba is needed, because goals are needed. We have a great team in the making but after the Arsenal game I bet you AVB was wishing he had acquired one more up-and-running striker. Defoe is hit and miss and also 30 years of age. No comment is needed regarding Adebayor and Lamela is untested in the EPL and is not an out-and-out striker either. A loan fee of £10m for the bandy-legged barrel at Zenit is clearly ludicrous and if Spurs could have picked up Ba for even £7m it would have been worth doing. The big problem here of course is that Chelsea wouldn’t sell Tottenham a broken pram leave alone a decent striker!

    • we had our chance last winter. didn’t do a damn thing. and the rest was history. was really looking forward to the game at emirates, but now… all i have is two weeks of depression.

  5. I think Ba would have been great. I actually think a lot of our season depends on Adebeyor, and what his fitness and attitude is like – as well as the relationship with AVB. A fully functioning Adebeyour alongside Soldado could make a huge difference…

  6. no we don’t need Demba Ba, Adebayor is better than him, AVB needs to get his head right, on his wages he should be the best in the division, and fined heavily in he doesn’t put in a decent shift !!!!

    • ade “WAS” better than Ba, and Ba will never be the player Ade was… but at the moment, Ade will never be the same Ade ever again… something is totally wrong with him since he left Arsenal. just totally lost. slow. and everything. just sad.

    • agreed. damio would have been better and cheaper. soldado is a poacher, and we just don’t get enough good balls into the penalty.
