Lewis Holtby recorded his first senior Tottenham goal in the 3-0 win over Dinamo Tbilisi last week but almost as soon as the final whistle sounded, there were rumours of a possible loan spell out of the club. In the wake of so many transfers into White Hart Lane, it was probably to be expected but the player himself was adamant that he was going nowhere.
“I don’t know where these rumours have come from. I missed nine weeks for Tottenham and missed the pre-season and it has been a tough summer,” said the midfielder.
“We are determined to show the gaffer that everyone is needed at the club and everyone is ready to play in the big games. I am very pleased to be in this squad.
Lewis also acknowledged the need for competition for places with Spurs fighting on four fronts this season.
“You need a big squad if you want to challenge for trophies and be strong in every competition. I think we are going to get some very good results this season,” he added.
“I knew that Tottenham was going to be a big club in Europe and to be a part of that, it just makes your game better.”
Along with Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lewis Holtby could have been the man most under pressure during yesterday’s final day but both men stay. Question is, where and how often will they fit in?

Crazy but one things for surewe lacked passion against arsenal and holtby had it in abundance, he as as good as Wiltshire if ya ask me! My 1st eleven would look like this

Holtby was excellent in that position in Europa league and with him eriksen and lamela the creative side is covered holtby will also defend from the front really well and with pualinho and sandro the beast!! No one will pass.
Agree, my friend. Holtby is a class act and deserves mins in his FAVOURED no10 role.
I personally would pick him ahead of Eriksen.
Right now, its anyone’s guess. However, when comparing 10’s across the top 5, i am wishing we still had a top class 10.

I would say we are lacking a bit of quality in comparison, and definitely in the star power. Maybe I am just being too hard after our loss this weekend. it’s a long long two weeks you know.
Holtby plays better through the middle, he was playing in the middle when he scored last thursday. Definitely a starting 11 player with his passion, skill and eye for a pass he brings. I see him and Eriksen unfortunately fighting for the same position
Eriksen is the mobile of the 2. He can go past people too so he could play either side of holtby if we wanted. Holtby can also play the scholes role as a CM . I can see him playing there in a few years.
Yea I could see holtby in the scholes role too, I personally think both holtby and eriksen can play in the same lineup, maybe interchange positions to keep teams on their toes!
if you play two little attackers, you definitely put pressure on the likes of sandro and capoue, but we’ll see. our depth is amazing, but it may also be because nobody is really standing out at the moment.
our depth is still not Mata, Oscar and Hazard.
