The rumours of new defensive signings came and went during the last few days of the transfer window but with no new arrivals on the left side, it seems as if Danny Rose may have made the left back position his own for the rest of the campaign.
That view was reinforced by the departure of Benoit Assou-Ekotto to QPR on loan and as we look towards the remainder of 2013-14, Rose can feel trusted and in a position to cement himself as first choice.
“I spoke to the manager about the left-back situation and he assured me that if he still wanted a change, he’d come to speak to me first, which is great,” Rose said.
“I wasn’t looking to go anywhere just yet. I’m enjoying the run in the team and long may it continue.”
There are, of course, a range of alternatives if Danny is injured or loses form but are any of them really viable? And, it could be that a major signing is made in that position in the next window but whatever transpires, this is clearly the most critical four months of the player’s White Hart Lane career.
Rose is an awful defender. I really worries me when gets too far upfield and doesnt track back. Adebeyor could do a better job! cannot believe we didnt get another left back and a striker!
Good player who is ONLY going to get better. Partnership with Chadli shows plenty of promise. Did well against Walcott one-on-one but was left exposed (like the rest of the defence) by Dembele and Paulinho’s LACK of pressing in the midfield area.
At times Capoue was left to do, both, the Belgian’ AND Brazilian’ jobs for them!
Had those two players played at ANYTHING close to 100% we would a won that match (or at LEAST not lost it)
Makes a nice change having a LB who is totally committed to PREVENTING crosses being swung into the box at will, unlike BAE who used to stand at LEAST 5 yards of the opponent, allowing them room to try to service their frontmen.
People will do well to remember he is still a young player, operating in a mature players role!

not sure what game you were watching mate? Rose positioning and tracking is awful. The biggest gaps on the pitch always appeared around where he was defending. Against palace, i counted 3 occasions when he jogged back when he was caught out upfield and Palace were attacking. He is not good enough at top 4 level. Ok he can improve, but he will cost us point in the meantime. his interview comments show he cares just about playing weekly and not about the bigger picture of the team doing well.
Got to agree with Trev, even against Arsenal he was jogging back on a number of occasions, as was Townsend. Disappointing for two players trying to make their mark, they’ll have to learn that basics like this are simply a must at this level. Let’s hope they can improve on this aspect.
Where was he on the goal? Walcott was like a whole 10 metres along when he got the pass.
