Gylfi Sigurdsson grabbed the points but there’s no doubt that Tottenham’s debutant Christain Eriksen took the headlines after a brilliant display in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Norwich at the Lane. The midfielder gave a direct assist to Gylfi for the opener before setting up Paulinho whose cross was turned in at the far post and overall it was one of the most impressive starts from anyone in a Lilywhite shirt.

It’s only one game but it’s tough not to get carried away and Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas led the praise after the match.

“He used all his experience – although he’s so young – to take the team forward and link up the game for us. (It was) a good performance as well,” AVB said.

“He knows how to position himself and found the gaps between Norwich that allowed us to link the game.

“It was an excellent performance for a player who has just arrived.”

Joining in the plaudits is striker Roberto Soldado who believes that Eriksen’s arrival can only make the team better.

“It’s great for him, for the team. He is a player who is capable of improving all of us,” said the Spaniard in the Daily Telegraph.

“He is a player that makes everything look easy and that’s good for us. Today he made the difference, he’s a player that can support us in everything we do. He can offer us a lot of passes to everyone who plays in attack for Spurs.”

There’s a long way to go in this campaign but the prospect of watching Christian Eriksen over the remainder of this season is an exciting one. Who knows whether he’s only here because the Willian deal fell through but if that is the case, nobody should be sorry about missing out on the Brazilian.

  1. Worry about missing out on Willian? He’d prefer to sit on the bench for Chelsea in return for higher wages? NOT someone we missed out on.

    Eriksen is the better choice.
