Tottenham’s young striker Harry Kane spoke yesterday about his desire to get his first goal at under 21 level. It seemed that Harry would get a perfect opportunity against lowly San Marino and so it proved, but the forward went on to complete a memorable hat trick in the European Championship qualifier.

Speaking yesterday Kane said,

“It would mean a lot,” he said. “I’ve scored at every level I’ve played at and this would be another step. It’s something I’d love to do.

“If the manager selects me, I know there will be a chance to score and I’m confident I’ll go out there and get on the scoresheet.”

There was even more encouraging news for Spurs fans as on loan midfielder Tom Carroll provided two assists in the 4-0 victory – the second leading to Harry’s hat trick. The striker now has three goals from four appearances at this level after a solid record from Under 17’s onwards.

We said yesterday that the Under 21s may provide more interest for Spurs fans than the full internationals this week and it will be worth monitoring Kane and Carroll again when they feature against Lithuania at Portman Road on Tuesday.
