If Spurs do sign a striker in the January transfer window it’s hard to see just where he will fit in to the current system. Spurs and AVB seem rigid in their belief that one up front is the way forward and Roberto Soldado’s goal against Aston Villa at the weekend will surely give him an extended run in the side.
Behind the Spaniard, Jermain Defoe waits patiently while Emmanuel Adebayor is back in the squad and may just be pressing for a place in the cup games we have coming up. Of course it’s conceivable that either Jermain or Ade will leave the club in the summer and that’s arguably why the media persists with rumours of another centre forward arriving at White Hart Lane in a few weeks’ time.
The Star broke with a supposed exclusive this morning claiming that Tottenham were preparing a bid for Aston Villa’s Belgian striker Christian Benteke. The 22 year was a suggested target in the summer before retracting a transfer request and despite picking up an injury earlier in the campaign, he looks as prolific as ever.
Benteke was sharp and threatening on Sunday prior to Tottenham’s second goal and of all the strikers currently linked, may well be the man the Spurs fans want at their club.
