Let’s be honest, if Emmanuel Adebayor couldn’t get a gig in last night’s Capital One Cup tie with Hull City then it’s fairly safe to assume that his Tottenham career is over. That theory will only have been enhanced by the performance of Harry Kane who scored his second senior goal for the club at the death before despatching a calm penalty in the nervous shoot out.
Earlier this month, Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas said he was weighing up options for the 20 year old striker who hasn’t really benefited from recent loan spells to Norwich City and Leicester City.
“We can’t have a loan situation that does not work for him, like the ones that we have had before,” Andre said at the time.
“That’s why we have been very cautious with his next step, and we have not been in a rush in that situation.
“Why haven’t the loans worked before? Because he didn’t play.”
Speaking on the club’s official twitter feed Harry simply added,
‘It’s a proud moment for me and important for the team that it mattered as well. It (the second goal) felt good and I thought it was in all the way.’
Kane looked sharp when he came on against Cardiff earlier in the campaign and those at the game last night claim he looked far more threatening then Jermain Defoe. Spurs may be back in for a new centre forward in January but until then, Harry Kane probably deserves a run as the club’s third striker.
how long will it be before avb understands defoe cannot play as a lone striker its becoming a joke now he cant hold the ball up its not hes game he should only start if we play 2 up front
He scored a fair few at the start of last season as a lone striker and scored one (against Newcastle?) where he picked it up near the halfway line out wide, shrugged off a few challenges and ran on to score.
That said, for whatever reason, he’s just looking atrocious now and given the option of starting someone else before him as part of a 2, I’d take that. Thanks for the memories JD, but I think your time is up, cheerio!
Defoe last night was absolutely terrible. There was no movement from him and whenever he did decide to try and shake Paul McShane he usually ran into the space of others around him.
Kane on the other hand played in the hole and on the wings mostly last night to great effect. He clearly is going to be a great player. Still a little raw but reminds me of Welbeck when he first came on the scene a couple of years ago. If our Harry can develop in the same manner then we will have on hell of a player on our hands. But like everything it will TAKE TIME!!!
In the short term moving on Defoe and Adebayor to bring in Pato and move Kane up the pecking order would be all we really need to do in January. Obviously this is me playing fantasy football, not an expectation of what will actually happen!
Harry should be brought on for the last 15 mins in PL games and the whole 90 in Euro Games- Defoe got even more selfish last evening trying emulate Harry’s goal!!! He can go to Canada if he wants. He’s over the top anyway!
I love defoe but playing as a lone striker does not work for him. Benteke please forget pato he is unproven in england .

Sell Defoe and Adebayor and put the money towards Benteke, Lukaku or Llorente. We need a big man up front to get the most out of our midfielders.
