Spurs are assessing Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen ahead of this afternoon’s game at White Hart Lane. Both men featured in Thursday’s Europa League win over Anzhi but with defence being the main problem area, Rose is the man most likely to start.

Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul are said to be struggling and with Jan Vertonghen definitely ruled out, AVB’s options are slim.

There are the usual questions in midfield however and up front where Roberto Soldado may come back in after his hat trick in the week.

“We have to think about it,” said Villas-Boas.

“It’s a bit premature [to say who will start]. We always wanted to give this game to Roberto after two games in a row for Jermain, who was deserving his chance as well. Now it’s about putting the best possible strategy of the game and seeing what we can do.

“What this will help is put the player back with confidence with his final touch and a striker always lives off goals so it’s extremely important.”

As always there are so many permutations – here are our thoughts but what’s your view?

  3. That would be my team other than Townsend on the left he looked good there on thursday and created so many chances I don’t agree with a left footed player on the right the width will create more goal scoring opportunities for Robbie

May also be worth noting that the one time liverpool have been totally taken apart this season was by le arse, who played with a notable lack of width that day, they congested the centre of midfield with inventive players and outnumbered liverpool’s 3 central midfielders comfortably…perhaps a change of tact is needed today?

  7. Unfortunately, Saurez will torment Dawson, but looks like we’re stuck with him today. I’d like to see a strong diamond 4-4-2; Sandro- Paulinho- Dembele- Holtby, with Soldado and Defoe given their chance together. Smother those reds.

      • He does offer great protection for the left back with his work rate. With Suarez prone to moving into wings and the pacy sterling possibly playing, would offering rose/naughton some more protection be a bad thing with Ross just coming back and naughton not so comfortable on the left? Also he has good aerial ability as seen from his assist for paulinho…

    • Why would anyone start townsend? He is shocking!! constantly gives away possession and rarely has an end product. He is incredibly bad.

      • We don’t give people enough chance in this country IMO he has got great potential and the only way he will achieve that is game time! Learning from
        His mistakes and improving! Look at bale, Ronaldo etc! On the left he has the pace and skill to deliver excellent crosses his touch is very good and he tracks back!! He could do with some goals like!

  20. If churches is unfit and we have to play naught on at lb, AVB will want to play narrow to stop the back 4 from being exposed. Hence Paulihiño, Dembele and Sandro in midfield and maybe Chadli lw. I hope he plays Townsend LW but he may want to protect Naughton. If Chirches and Rose can start then Dembele I suspect will be on the bench. I would prefer Dembele to start becos I really don’t c what Paulinho does to get in the side b4 Dembele. Hopefully Soldado up front. When hot he is much better finisher than Defoe.

    £100 million of players but NO TEAM.
    AVB will be a lucky man if he is still at Spurs after Xmas.
