Whenever Danny Rose is set for a spell on the sidelines, we assume that Jan Vertonghen will switch over to cover as a far more preferable solution to right footed Kyle Naughton. It’s easy to forget that we have another natural left back in the squad in Zeki Fryers.
The 21 year old has appeared on the far left side of defence and in a centre half position during this campaign and he hopes that his adaptability will give him more of a chance under Tim Sherwood.
“I’m learning to play the two positions, full-back and centre-back, and that’s a good thing for me,” Fryers said on the club’s official website. “I’m also trying to get used to playing both sides of the defence as well. It’s tough, but it’s about getting your bearings right and your positioning correct.
“It means I’ll be ready should I ever be needed to fill in. I’ve had a few opportunities this season and I just want to stay in the setup now, keep working hard and whenever the chances come by, try to take them and keep progressing.”
Zeki has made nine appearances for the club this season – two in the Premier League – but should Sherwood use him more during the run in?
yes he should, he,s a strong player, and i feel he will even get better.
