Along with Hugo Lloris, Christian Eriksen is the one player to have really emerged from the 2013-14 season with any credit and there may have been genuine concern when we read yesterday’s reports suggesting that new Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal would make the Dane a priority target.

Eriksen had previously said that his future at White Hart Lane wasn’t dependent on a top four finish and he has now gone on to state that his first year at the club more than exceeded his expectations.

“It’s more than I could have dreamed or imagined,” Eriksen told the Danish press.

“You always hear that the first season is just acclimatising, but it’s gone beyond expectations. Or I would say that it ended better than I expected.”

However, Christian did admit that there were times when he doubts over his own game.

“The end was good. But there was a time when I doubted if I should play. You try to convince yourself that you should, and I am very pleased with the end of the season,” he added.

Eriksen overwhelming won the supporters’ player of the year award and we will all hope that rumours of a sale disappear as quickly as they arrived.
