Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Jay Rodriguez – they’ve all been linked with a move to Spurs in the wake of Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival as our new head coach but by the time the new season starts, the one former Saints star in our squad could be defensive midfielder Victor Wanyama.

Some headlines suggest that the Kenyan international is desperate to follow his former manager to White Hart Lane, although that isn’t quite what he said.

“I learnt a lot from him, he taught me more and that’s why I have grown as a player. He played a big role in my career development,” Wanyama told the Daily Mail.

“I wanted him to remain because he had the passion for the club and I think the owners should not have let him go because the team can do better next season. It’s a big blow because he had a good connection with the players.”

Anyone should be wary of players who have been successful in the Scottish Premier League and although the Kenyan impressed at St Mary’s last season, his only chance of a move would come if Sandro were to leave the squad. Alternatively, he can also play in central defence – a position where we aren’t as blessed.

  1. I’m not saying he’s the answer.but I used to watch him a lot when he played for Celtic and boy was he good.he stared last season really well and was unfortunate with his injury.personally,I think he could quite easily slot into a top6 side, here or abroad.
