Yesterday we picked up on reports that Spurs were among a number of clubs taking an interest in teenage Belgian striker Divock Origi. The 19 year old had just come off the bench to score the winner against Russia which ensured World Cup progression for his country, sparking a number of reports concerning a summer switch to the Premiership.
Origi’s contribution led to the Evening Standard labelling him as a ‘sensation’ but closer inspection of his club form for Lille suggested otherwise. The striker has scored twice in 44 games for the French club but if any manager is excited about the prospect of bringing him to England, the player has given them a glimmer of hope.
“As a little boy I dreamt of playing in the Premier League but I am still young and now I am in an important tournament so I try to focus on the team,” Origi told the press.
“Then my entourage will see at the club and we will see what I will do.”
According to those reports, Spurs are just one Premier League side though to be monitoring the player despite the lack of goals at club level. It’s interesting too that the reported transfer fee has increased from £5m to £8m overnight but it’s certainly worth monitoring Divock Origi’s progress as the Belgian World Cup campaign continues.
