We’d tipped Harry Kane to start Saturday’s defeat to Manchester City but with Emmanuel Adebayor left on the bench, Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino opted for Roberto Soldado as the lone striker.
We all know how the game progressed and how the Spaniard fared in a match where the player felt the need to apologise following his penalty miss.
“Sad match in which we had our opportunities including my penalty. I’m sorry and I’ll keep working hard to help the team with my goals,” Roberto said via his Instagram page.
The match at City continued a barren spell in the league for the former Valencia man. After scoring six Premiership goals last season – four from the penalty spot – that run now reads six strikes in 31 overall appearances since arriving in the summer of 2013.
The striking options at Spurs are, once again, looking a little thin and it could be argued that Soldado deserves a chance simply by default. With Pochettino determined to play just one up front, who should lead the line until the transfer window opens at the start of 2015?
Soldado is not being fed the ball by the absence of proper wingers.. He was a lonely outcast in the second half and could not even be bothered to break into a run most times.. Hopeless. Either the manager gives him proper service or he should go..
Alongside Mason and Eriksen, he actually fared rather well.
If the missed penalty is the only thing you base your judgement on, maybe you should stop writing about football.

Soldado won the penalty, set up Mason for a clear chance and set up Eriksen for the goal.
He needs a run of at least 6 games on the trot. give the man a chance FFS. Ade is a waste of space and Harry is almost there but not quite. Give him 6 games to justify spending all that dosh on him, he is not a bad footballer but does need better service.
Quality player but not neccesarily for the premiership. If not hitting form come january then we need to xchange and cash in im afraid. Coys
Matthew you need to be objective, this was Soldado’s first start in the PL and he did more in 90 minutes then Ade has done all season.

He needs a striking partner may be pair him with Kane games rather than play him as sole striker , it was his first penalty miss for Tottenham , other then eriksen and the goalie no one else covered them selves in glory with shit defensive display on Saturday !!.
Anyways on wards up wards with have a couple of home fixtures coming up 2 in the cups and then Newcastle 🙂

There seems to be an understanding between Soldado, Lamela, Erikson and chadli, but it needs to be nurtured. Biting the bullet and playing them together for as long as it takes is the only way forward.
How can people continue to back a striker that has scored just two goals in open play in the PL since his arrival? Yes, Saturday was one of his better games as he did actually get involved. Yes, he has a decent touch but rarely in the areas that damage people. He has little pace, no physical strength, cannot beat a man and is very one footed. Unless the ball is played into his feet in space he offers next to nothing. Compare him to Aguero and his huge limitations are there for everyone to see. You cannot play in the air or over the top into space, even into feet and he is often brushed aside. Saturday suited him as the opposition were pushing forward and leaving space and room at the back. At the moment he is the worst value for money buy in the history of the club. Carragher is correct, Eriksen apart, Tottenham squandered the Bale money on players you would now be hard pushed to sell at half the price we bought them for. Soldado will still be a Spurs player after January as nobody would pay 10 million for him which sums it up.
We back him because he is a quality player given a good run in the team he could prove his worth. Heskey never set the world alight or scored many goals neither. we have a decent side, good ti see chadli, eriksen and lamela playing together and again with time will improve im sure. Coys
I’ve been a spurs fan, man and boy too many years to reflect on. Saturday’s game was the first live game I’ve been able to attend for a long long time. I do have to join the debate by saying ‘the only difference between the two teams was, we played with soldado and city had a world class striker Aguairo – No other difference, we created just as many chances’
Soldado, I’m afraid, is crap. He used to score pens, now he can’t even do that. It was a lousy effort, let’s be honest.
Stop focusing on soldado the whole teams shite . No Hart no guts no passion no desire no glory when was the last time you see a spurs player kiss the badge or show any tiny bit of fight for the club. sadly all those players have been sold off by our wanker of a chairman . We have had problems at the back for years and nothing has changed you must pick a settled team you can’t keep Chopin and changing as for the manger I’m still not sure doesn’t look like the inspirational type to me another season of woe I think another big team spanks us again I really do fear when we play Chelsea a cricket score could be on the cards. As for soldado you can’t score without chances being made I agree he needs a run of games though .
