There’s always a stop-start feel to the opening of a Premier League season when three international breaks kick in before November is out. As we’ve discussed before – when there is no action on the pitch, the idle transfer stories start – Podolski to Spurs being a prime example.

The current downtime has sparked a number of reports linking Hugo Lloris with a move away from White Hart Lane. This is nothing new as they began to emerge as soon as it became apparent that we would not be making the Champions League slots at the end of the previous campaign.

Real Madrid, Roma and even Manchester United have been mentioned with some even suggesting that a cheeky January bid could be on the cards.

Of course, the cynical among us will look to Michel Vorm’s signing and suggest that this is very much expected by the club’s hierarchy, and not just another idle piece of gossip on a slow news week.
