As usual, Tottenham are making it tough for themselves. While not the worst result, Spurs’ 1-0 win at home to Sheffield United was a lacklustre affair which should have been more fruitful.
The Blades are certainly no pushovers, but it’s safe to say Tottenham fans were expecting to take a decent lead to Bramall Lane for the second leg. It took 73 minutes for the hosts to break through; Andros Townsend converted his fourth penalty kick of the season.
But how did Twitter react post-match?
An under-cooked performance from Spurs, lacking vim, incisiveness and product – a story of much of the season. But a win.

Our two CBs and Townsend I thought were very good tonight, everyone else avg, Davies looked poor but had no protection in front of him

Tactically we were poor but we really struggle to get going when Kane & Eriksen aren't playing well.

Saving grace is they will have to come at us in the second leg hopefully leaving gaps in behind.

That wasn't much fun. Performance was flat & so was atmosphere. Plenty of work still to do. Dier, Vertonghen, Townsend & Stambouli did OK.

Still not convinced 4-4-2 works. We need Kane & Eriksen in their best positions or we lose a lot of our potency upfront.
