It took 24 minutes for Tottenham to break the deadlock at Goodison Park.

The visitors had been camped in Everton’s defensive third for the majority of the opening stages, but lacked a clinical edge as the hosts kept them out.

Everton had threatened to score a couple of times in the opening half hour, but Spurs were clearly the better side and deserved their 1-0 lead going into the break.
