The 6ft 2″ Spanish international has been a squad player rather than an automatic choice over the past couple of seasons, having signed for Atletico in 2010.
Tottenham’s defensive woes last season were in large part down to the lack of a reliable defensive midfielder in front of the back four. So is Suarez the man to solve the problem?
Probably not, according to Andrew Gaffney – a noted Spurs Tweeter who lives in Spain and is something of an expert on La Liga. He wrote the following this afternoon when quizzed on Suarez.
A few have asked me about Mario Suarez after he was linked with us. Personally not a fan of his. Bit too sloppy for the DM role he covers.

Failed to establish himself as a starter under Simeone hence why he wants out. Previously linked with Inter although interest has cooled.

Suarez improves against the more naturally offensive Mason but still not pulling up any trees in La Liga.

At 28-years old it seems unlikely that Tottenham would spend major money on a player with much to prove, so don’t expect this deal to go through unless the club can negotiate a bargain fee. Here’s the man in action.
stop messing around levy just go and knick song off West Ham
He isn’t good enough, sort it out and sign Schneiderlin.
Schneiderlin wants c league we can’t offer song is good enough.
No matter who you buy your team won’t be strong enough to creep out of the shadow. COYG.
Just worry bout what your doing gonner scum.
