Social media was all doom and gloom this afternoon when it was announced Erik Lamela would replace Christian Eriksen in the starting eleven for Tottenham’s trip to Leicester City.

Eriksen misses out with a knee injury. Even though Lamela is the logical replacement, many Spurs fans weren’t happy with the Argentine’s selection, while others were pleased to see him given a chance.

Elsewhere in the team, Ben Davies keeps his place at left-back ahead of Danny Rose, who is on the bench. Mauricio Pochettino has stuck with a central midfield partnership of Eric Dier and Ryan Mason. The pair impressed against Stoke City last week.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the team news…

  1. Eriksen played every game last season but Juventus weren’t interested then. Alli should be on somewhere from the start and N’jie should be on the bench at least. I was going to be fickle today but I changed my mind; I hope Lamela has a storming day to do him and us some good. COYS!

  2. The new striker is not even on the bench and yet Kane has every chance of pulling up again. No sense whatsoever!! Can’t see us getting much here

  3. I watched the whole match yesterday glutton for punishment. Lamela can not keep getn picked we are playn with 10 men when he plays ffs y can you not see that you useless manager. 90 secs when we scored then they did tells you all about being a spurs fan. Y is Rose not plyn do not understand that Vertoghen thinks he is brilliant he was but not now. Why are you playn Walker not trippier much better crosser of ball to Kane. And to you smug arrogant Levy get your wallet out and get us a decent forward and a midfielder or do you want to go down to the last seconds of transfer deadline so much for letn poch do the transfers Liar.
