I am now convinced this is a dream. Moments ago, Erik Lamela made it 4-1 – yes, that’s 4-1 – against Manchester City. It just can’t be real.
Kevin De Bruyne’s early opener counted for nothing as Spurs blew the visitors away at White Hart Lane. Goals from Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane had put Tottenham in a commanding position going into the final stages of the game.
Man of the match Erik Lamela wrapped things up late on to seal a memorable win. You can watch the goal below…
And here’s how Twitter reacted to the victory…
Should still be winning this but that's a decent team Spurs have put out

#spurs #coys #thfc – Silly me. No Kompany, no Silva, no Hart? I am starting to get optimistic. COME ON YOU SPURS!

1962 – Tottenham scored 4+ goals in a league game against Manchester City for the first time since September 1962 (4-2). Shock.

Hope Kyle Walker remembers to take Sterling out of his pocket and put him safely back on the bus. #COYS

Two seasons, two multi-million pound title challengers destroyed at White Hart Lane. Exciting times.

FT: #THFC 4 #MCFC 1 – Wonderful performance & response from Spurs. Lamela impressive & Kane drought over. Good day for Pochettino & Co

Tottenham deserve the win. No point dwelling on the offsides as they still outplayed us. Fair enough.

Alderweireld & Vertonghen is the most accomplished centre-back partnership we've had since Woodgate & King were both fit for that 10 minutes

What a win! Poch will feel fully vindicated in rotating for the NLD. Of course, that's not in-line with a lot of Spurs fans' thinking…

The season starts here. That 4-1 victory will be a huge confidence booster (for fans as well as the players!). And Our Harry is back #COYS

1-4 – This was Man City’s heaviest Premier League defeat (three goal margin) since a 0-3 defeat to Liverpool in April 2011. Bump.

That second half really was a thing of beauty.

Just superb @SpursOfficial, immense. Lost for words at the moment but that's a special, special win. #COYS

Similar feel to this as the Chelsea 5-3 last season. Pochettino solidifying a system and a spine, players buying in to it. Touch paper #COYS

Man City have now lost more games than Spurs this season. Spurs unbeaten in 6 and doubled the amount of goals City had conceded all season.

unbelievable!
Here`s to all the spurs fans who posted stuff after the stoke game a few weeks ago saying poch had to go
Here`s to the same fans who posted saying lamela should never wear a spurs shirt again
As you know these same idiots will be at it again tonight saying we are going to win the league!!
We are going to win the league
OK, so that’s one half-decent game from Lamela. Yes, he worked his socks off and yes, he coolly finished for his goal but his performance still left much to be desired and he has to build on this and get some consistency before we can start getting excited. He has kept us waiting a long time for a glimpse of his ability so let’s hope he can build on this performance.
Regards – an idiot fan
I can’t recall when I have been more excited by a player as I have been by Eric Dier.A future Tottenham and England captain.
