Tottenham endured a difficult night in Germany, going down 3-0 to Dortmund in the Europa League last 16 first leg.
The visitors started brightly, but were soon put through their paces by a deadly Dortmund side that looked like scoring whenever in possession.
The Germans scored once before the break and twice after, while Spurs never really had a sniff. Heung-Min Son debatably should have had a penalty at 1-0, but that’s about as close as Mauricio Pochettino’s men came.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the result and performance.
Watching Spurs getting spanked by Dortmund makes you realise that rotating your team rarely works.

It's a valid question: why bother jumping through all the Europa League hoops thrown at us all season only to chuck it in at this point?

This 'why try to get this far & throw it stuff' is a bit off IMO. Pochettino's played a B team throughout. This is just as far as it gets.

How disappointing. You play one of your biggest games in Europe for 5 years, against one of the best teams and you field that team. ?

First team or not Dortmund are mustard and probably would have done the same damage. Sometimes gotta admit defeat

Tottenham have a huge prize in their reach. But Poch has got this team wrong regardless of the PL intentions.

You are allowed to be critiqued when you get something wrong and today Mauricio Pochettino got it wrong. On to Villa. #COYS

Comprehensively outplayed tonight disappointing we didn't start Dembele, Lamela & Kane. Tie over!
— Kenny Palmer (@KennyPalmer) March 10, 2016
Shame. Had a chance to see where we were at and sent out half a team. This resting of players could do more damage than good. Villa next…
— Jay Jaffa (@jayjaffa) March 10, 2016
It's not much fun watching your team get thoroughly outplayed for 90 minutes, is it? Oh well, it hasn't happened often this season!

Spurs better beat Villa 74-0 on Sunday after tonight
— Ben McAleer (@BenMcAleer1) March 10, 2016
Bye bye Europa League. That was top quality CL performance by Dortmund. No meltdown please, even if our 1st team played we'd been trashed
— Eric Chakma (@EricYid) March 10, 2016
One thing we did learn tonight is that Dortmund are overwhelmingly better than our second string side..
— The Spurs Brain (@TheSpursBrain) March 10, 2016
Dortmund were brilliant tonite and we just weren't good enough! Let's hope the changes made pay off in the league! #COYS

Shows how much Poch is prioritising the league.. Must truly believe we can go on and win it!Disappointed though – bring on Sunday.

Poch has engineered what's probably the best Spurs team of my lifetime. Not about to start calling him out just for rotating for an EL tie
— Tom Edwards (@tomedwards) March 10, 2016
Some of the ire this evening is way OTT. This is a manager and squad already way ahead of achievement schedule.
Calm down

Lost all respect for pottechino
never play reserves in a crucial match
Exspect us to fall apart now
The only problem I have with tonight is, if he wanted to rest players why not rest them on Sunday when we play Villa. Tonight was a good chance to see how we would play against a champion league team. Don’t want to take anything away from Tottenham as they have been brilliant all season. But this was a lesson in football when you mess about with the team. And we still need a bloody new striker.
Certainly shows how weak the squad is once you take the 1st XI out. Encouraging the kids is fine but to throw them all in together against a team of Dortmund’s class was a bit cruel. Feel sorry for the Spurs fans that paid good money to get to Germany only to watch the team get humiliated. Let’s hope the “rested” players can do the necessary on Sunday.
So that is 3 on the spin without a win.A leopard never changes its spots and I fear that we will struggle at Villa and from now onwards.MP is a disgrace as he has not treated Dortmund or the Europa League with any respect.Hoping for a reaction on Sunday at Villa but won’t hold my breath.
