Tottenham’s pursuit of the title was given two boosts this weekend as rival players were given red cards.

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was sent off in their 3-0 loss to Manchester City after bringing down Fernandinho in the box to concede a penalty.

Having already been dismissed earlier this season, the Belgian will receive a two-match ban that will rule him out of Spurs’ visit to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Jamie Vardy’s red card in Leicester’s 2-2 draw with West Ham will see him get at least a one-match ban, which would see him miss the Foxes’ next game, at home to Swansea.

Yet Vardy’s reaction to being sent off could see him receive an additional ban. The England striker appeared to swear at referee Jon Moss and if the official decides to mention this in his report, the FA will have to decide if he deserves further punishment.

Diego Costa recently had a one-match ban extended by another game after his petulant reaction to being sent off against Everton. If Vardy received the same treatment, he would also miss Leicester’s trip to Manchester United.

  1. Our pursuit of the title was given a boost by Cortois’ sending off?

Unless I’m severely mistaken, Chelsea are 15pts behind us. With Leicester 8pts ahead of us, that’s them 23pts off top with 5 games to go. How exactly are Chelsea our title rivals?!

  2. Because he’ll be banned when we play against them!!…

Hopefully vardy will miss more than one too! – .. I work with a Leicester fan and he’s full of crap about the refs being harsh on them and he’s serious!! They’ve had 13 penalties given to them this year…… 13!!!!! Not to mention the crap their thugs at CB & CM get away with!
