Liverpool had been the better side but even they looked low on quality, particularly when Phillippe Coutinho missed a sitter from close range. He’ll blame Michel Vorm, who enjoyed an excellent first half for Spurs.
The visitors’ lack of incisiveness was matched by Spurs’ openness. And when Roberto Firmino was tripped in the box by Erik Lamela, the Reds were given a penalty and a chance to take advantage of their first half dominance.
