Despite a string of impressive performances last season resulting in a new contract this summer, Kevin Wimmer could be on his way out of White Hart Lane according to ESPN.
Wimmer’s exit would leave Spurs short at the back, and ESPN are also reporting the club could move for Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.
Mangala has been exiled by new City boss Pep Guardiola and is likely to leave the Manchester club in the next few days. But despite Tottenham’s interest, it appears Mangala is keen on a return to his former club Porto, according to France Football, having snubbed the chance to remain in the Premier League.
The Frenchman isn’t the most assured defender, and has struggled to adjust to the English top division since joining City for £32 million in 2014.
Surely Spurs wouldn’t replace a consistent performer like Wimmer with Mangala, who appears unsuited to the style of the Premier League. Hopefully the latter does return to Porto, meaning Wimmer is likely to remain in North London.
What do you think? Should Spurs sell Wimmer? And is Mangala a worthy replacement?
Spurs should keep Wimmer
For a foreign player like Wimmer with little Premier League experience to deputise for Vertonghen as well as he did when Vertonghen was injured showed how good a player he was , also how reliable a defender he’d be when called upon . To sell him now would be a big mistake , esp if we’re looking at Mangala who clearly is not favoured by Man City , 1 of our main rivals as a replacement . Hopefully this is another rumour that is totally just sheer speculation n nothing more .
