Reports claim that Spurs are considering a move for Ross Barkley, with the Everton midfielder having stalled over the signing of a new contract.
Barkley’s contract runs out in 2018 and if he fails to renew during this season, Everton will have little choice but to sell a player whose value is plummeting.
The appeal to Tottenham is obvious. They could once again sign a Premier League-proven player for a bargain fee, just as they did this summer when Victor Wanyama was signed from Southampton for just £11m.
Barkley currently earns £60,000-a-week and has reportedly been offered £100,000 to stay at Everton. With the top players at Spurs gradually edging towards those figures, it’s not out of the question that the club could be paying those sort of wages to new recruits once we’ve left White Hart Lane – especially if the transfer fee is relatively low.
With Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United also said to be interested, competition looks set to be fierce for Barkley, should he decide to leave Goodison Park. Would you welcome the player at Tottenham?
Would be a great move but with bigger money elsewhere in the country we shouldn’t hold our breath on that one
