Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and Erik Lamela have all been left out of Tottenham’s starting eleven for the trip to Middlesbrough.
In fact, Dier and Dembele haven’t even made the 18-man squad after failing to recover from hamstring injuries picked up in the 1-0 win against Sunderland last weekend.
Despite impressing against Gillingham in midweek, Lamela only makes the bench. Moussa Sissoko starts, but it’s unclear whether he will play in the attacking midfield trio or partner Victor Wanyama in the deeper midfield band.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to all the team news.
#THFC team: Lloris (C); Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Wanyama, Alli; Sissoko, Eriksen, Son; Janssen. #COYS pic.twitter.com/8h7NkadnQh

No need to risk Dembele and Dier today. I hope it's Sissoko next to Wanyama with Alli further forward.

Poch taking no chances with muscular injuries. Huge chance for Sissoko to make his mark. https://t.co/zKazI3R9IR

Clear that Tues is the priority this week. That team should still have enough but won't be easy. Wouldn't mind Sissoko in CM rather than RM

Annoyed Lamela isn't starting! Assume he will play a big part in our next couple of games. #THFC

Glad we've got the squad depth we do. I hope Rose, Dier & Dembele are fit for Tuesday.

Has to HAS to be Sissoko alongside Wanyama. Alli is useless as a CM.

Good Eriksen is playing the No 10 role today. When he's on song the team ticks! #COYS

I'm happy enough with that team with Dier & Dembele recovering. Good to see Wimmer on subs bench too
