Reports claim that Toby Alderweireld could return from his injury to face Leicester later this month.

There were feats that the influential Belgian defender could be out for some months, having been stretchered off against West Brom while in clear pain.

Yet a scan has revealed that Alderweireld has merely picked up a heavy knock. That will him out of the trip to Bournemouth on Saturday, while it was likely that he would sit out the League Cup tie against Liverpool next week anyway.

With Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen set to face Bournemouth, before Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kevin Wimmer team up to take on Liverpool, there is no need to rush Alderweireld’s return, but Mauricio Pochettino would surely love to have him back in the team for the Leicester match on 29th October.

Spurs took only one point from the two matches last season against the eventual Premier League champions Leicester and the upcoming match at White Hart Lane is a clear opportunity to improve upon that performance.
