Mauricio Pochettino has gone with a mix of youth prospects and fringe players for Tottenham’s visit to Liverpool in the Capital One Cup. The side will be captained by Eric Dier for the first time.
Many of the young players — including Cameron Carter-Vickers, Harry Winks and Josh Onomah — are familiar to Tottenham fans having played in the first team intermittently in recent months.
Fringe players such as Kevin Wimmer, Tom Carroll and George-Kevin Nkoudou will be hoping to catch the eye in an attempt to play more regularly in the coming weeks, while Vincent Janssen is still in pursuit of that first goal from open play.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to all the team news.

#thfc Looking forward to seeing Carter-Vickers and Winks in action against good opposition in a competitive game. Should be informative.

Imagine the buzz young players on right now knowing their playing at Anfield. Alternatively, could have seasoned pros going threw motions…

Dier anchoring the midfield is (on paper anyway) a smart selection. Will be eager to see how Harrison especially fares if he gets on. #THFC https://t.co/QUBIDJCjW1

Looks like fitness stats totally dictated Poch's team selection. No Son on the bench suggests, he's not interested in 'saving' a result

The best thing about tonight is Eric Dier being captain #COYS

Wonder if Poch will regret not having one or two more first team players on the bench

Fingers crossed for tonight cant help feeling we are a tad lightweight in midfield behind Janssen though.

Do you know what? Looking at the two line ups I fancy us to do them tonight <cue a 5-0 thrashing. Probably> #COYS #LIVTOT

Look forward to seeing Carter-Vickers get a game tonight against decent opposition, hope Nkoudou can show what he can do too #COYS

So 4 first team players v three for them. We may have a chance now

Liverpool and Tottenham make 21 changes. Eric Dier is the only man on either side who stays in the team.

Its only the two bob cup. Why are all the girls getting so heated about it. We’re it to be a Champions league tie, FA cup tie or a league game, then it would be a major cause for alarm. I personally couldn’t give a toss if we went out infact, it could be a blessing.
