With Danny Rose suspended for Tottenham’s trip to Chelsea, many Spurs fans speculated that Jan Vertonghen’s absence in Monaco was to ensure he could play at left-back at Stamford Bridge.
Now the team line-ups have been released, it appears that’s exactly what will happen. Although there is a possibility Kevin Wimmer could replace Rose with Vertonghen remaining in his familiar centre-back role.
Elsewhere, Tottenham have gone with a familiar line-up. Harry Winks dropping to the bench is perhaps a surprise.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to all the team news.

Have we melted Sissoko down for scrap?

Wimmer at LB is 100% better than having him and Dier as the CB partnership. Keeping everything crossed ??? #COYS #CHEvTOT

Good team considering the circumstances. Just a bit concerned about the left back issue. Need calm heads & some very big shifts today. #COYS

BT Sport are suggesting Tottenham Hotspur are playing a 3-4-3 formation with Heung-Min Son operating at left wing back today. #COYS#THFC

Sissoko not on the bench. Totally justified. Cannot put his level of performances in and expect to be in the squad #COYS

If Sissoko cannot make the bench I’d venture to suggest that neither should Eriksen start, based on level of recent performances that is….
