Prior to Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Hull City at White Hart Lane, many Spurs fans were calling for Eric Dier to return to the side after he was dropped for the trip to Manchester United at the weekend.
Well, they’ve got their wish. Dier does return, but surprisingly he’ll partner Victor Wanyama in central midfield instead of replacing the Kenyan. Mousa Dembele misses out through injury.
Elsewhere, Moussa Sissoko replaces Heung-Min Son in the only other change from the team that lost at Old Trafford.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to all the team news.
#THFC: Lloris (C), Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Wanyama, Sissoko, Eriksen, Dele, Kane. #COYS pic.twitter.com/bmQwgNI0RV

#thfc Not what I expected at all. Two holding midfielders at home against a bottom-two side, and Walker & Rose start for 4th successive game

Not sure we need both Dier AND Wanyama. Against Hull. At home. ???

Sissoko earned his start against United. Hope he continues to disprove my first impression. No need for 2 DMs at home to Hull though ? #COYS

This is literally the easiest Premier League fixture on paper and Sissoko has got the whole game to show SOMETHING. Please. Anything.

#thfc Dier/Wanyama pivot seems too cautious. If you can't start Winks in this game, when can you start him? Burnley at home, presumably…

Winks & N'Koudou desperately unlucky not to start tonight, both on bench, would imagine both may feature versus Burnley Sunday. #COYS#THFC

We have tonight and Sunday then players have 10 days off before next fixture. Might be thinking behind Walker & Rose not rested.

Welcome back, Michael Dawson! #COYS pic.twitter.com/tMOKOgvs21

Looking forward to seeing some Dawson diagonals. If they don't ALL go over the wingers' heads, like they did for us, I will be very unhappy

*dismayed tweet about Dier and Wanyama starting together*

I was one of those fans wanting Dier to return, he is one of the best DM’s in the premiership, it doesn’t matter whether it’s Wanyama or Dembele playing along side him, he is the important one, let’s see him prove me right tonight
