Spurs fans were given a scare on Saturday when Toby Alderweireld was substituted during the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
With Jan Vertonghen likely to be out for six weeks with an ankle ligament injury, the team could scarcely afford to lose another senior central defender, especially at a time when Mauricio Pochettino is often using a 3-4-2-1 formation.
Fortunately there has been good news in relation to Alderweireld’s fitness, with the Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur releasing this quote from the defender on his Twitter account.

Even better news was to follow today from Barcelona, where Tottenham are currently training. Pictures from today’s session show Alderweireld in action and apparently looking in good shape.

As if that wasn’t enough, Jan Vertonghen posted a – now deleted – picture on his Instagram account, in which he looks to be on the road to recovery in the gym. Let’s hope this key duo will soon be reunited on the pitch.
