A Dele Alli red card and some poor finishing saw Tottenham exit Europe despite a rallying performance in the second half against Gent at Wembley. So how did they perform individually?

Hugo Lloris, 6

A spectator for the most part despite being beaten twice.

Eric Dier, 5

Lost a 50/50 for the opener and the ball cannoned off his chest for the second — perhaps unfortunate, but responsible.

Toby Alderweireld, 7

Unlucky to see his perfectly timed tackle wrongly given as a corner which led to the first Gent goal. Reasonably comfortable throughout.

Jan Vertonghen, 6

Did his best to get Spurs up the pitch. Blazed a couple of shots over when perhaps a pass was a better option.

Kyle Walker, 7

Full of attacking intent from minute one and linked up well with Eriksen on the right. His final ball could have been better.

Victor Wanyama, 7

Gave the ball away needlessly more than once in the first half but came alive after the break and scored a cracking goal that temporarily gave Tottenham hope.

Mousa Dembele, 7

Helped 10-man Spurs control the midfield in the second half. Tired quicker than others and was substituted on 75 minutes.

Ben Davies, 6

Looked more comfortable on the ball than he has in recent games, but his one meaningful delivery was narrowly missed by Harry Kane. The first player to be subbed.

Christian Eriksen, 7

Started brilliantly, opening the scoring and linking up with Walker whenever possible. Made the second goal but his finishing was mostly awry.

Dele Alli, 3

Sent off for an indefensible tackle that ultimately cost Spurs the tie.

Harry Kane, 5

A difficult outing for Kane, who scored an own goal and missed countless chances. But he never hid, and was genuinely unlucky with a couple of his opportunities.

Substitutes

Heung-Min Son, 6

A really strange cameo. Son injected pace and purpose immediately, but ended up losing the ball too many times and missing a big chance when through on goal.

Harry Winks, N/A

Did all he could to control the tempo for 15 minutes with his accurate passing.

Vincent Janssen, N/A

Played just a minute plus stoppage time.
