It would be difficult for any player to come in and displace Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele, or even Harry Winks, in the centre of Tottenham’s midfield right now.
But, of course, that doesn’t mean the media aren’t linking every player under the sun with a summer move to Spurs.
The latest name is Inter Milan’s 24-year-old midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham are willing to pay £22 million for the Croatian international.
Brozovic has scored five goals and assisted four for Inter this term, and has previously partnered Luka Modric in Croatia’s midfield. He has been in and out of the team at Inter since joining in 2015, primarily because of numerous changes in management.
Despite the form of Spurs’ current central midfielders, strength in depth can only be a good thing. The recruitment team should be looking at players that are as good as, if not better than, what Mauricio Pochettino already has at his disposal.
