Tottenham fans saw a new side of Harry Winks on Sunday.

Tempers flared after the midfielder was angered by a Soufiane Boufal challenge in the latter stages of the Spurs’ 2-1 over Southampton at White Hart Lane.

Winks was held back by teammate Kieran Trippier, but the supporters appreciated Winks aggression and passion for the game.

The fans showed their support by singing the ‘one of our own’ chant, which is usually reserved for Tottenham talisman Harry Kane, and Winks told the club’s official website of his delight after hearing the song.

“It was a special moment for me,” said Winks. “It was the first time I’ve heard the whole stadium sing my name like that and it really meant a lot.

“The fans know that every time I come on, I just want to help the team in any way possible and I’ll give everything.

“On this occasion, it was to see the game out, to help us keep hold of the three points and everything I did out there was geared towards that.”

He added: “It was tough, Southampton are a good side, they are strong, resilient and a threat so it was a good win for us and great to keep the run going.”
