Despite being the better the team for long spells of the game, Tottenham lost 4-2 to Chelsea at Wembley to end their dream of a potential double.
Chelsea led 2-1 at half-time — Willian scored a free-kick and a penalty either side of Harry Kane’s brilliant header.
Dele Alli latched onto Christian Eriksen’s inch-perfect pass ten minutes into the second half to put Spurs level, and Mauricio Pochettino’s side looked likely to get the next goal.
But substitute Eden Hazard scored Chelsea’s third before setting up Nemanja Matic for a brilliant fourth.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the result and performance.
What a ball!?

The better team lost. Spurs did not deserve that defeat. Now they can concentrate on the League … and Chelsea on the Double! COYS! #TOTCHE

Fine margins for this #THFC team. Gave as good as they got on the whole. Can’t legislate for a silly penalty and an even sillier Matic goal.

Another harsh lesson. Spurs the better team but you can’t always fall back on the ‘but we played well’ mantra. We need a trophy.

“Not our day”. No, and it seldom will be if you gift a side of their quality goals at regular intervals. That’s what we have to learn from.

Never outclassed. Two really good goals from Chelsea were the difference in the end.

I think Pochettino will rue playing Son at wing back, the decision back fired. I think he should’ve gone for a unchanged line up

Beat by a cracking free kick, pen after a dive, Eden Hazard and a Worldie. Odds were stacked but it doesn’t hurt any less. #COYS

Not ‘Spursy’ just one of those days. The better side but Chelsea scored w/ every attack – some bad defending, a bit of luck and star quality

Bravo, Spurs ?????? by far the better team against a side of much greater resource. Ruskie blood money & a couple of mistakes the difference
— Tom Edwards (@tomedwards) April 22, 2017
They had 5 shots on target & scored 4 times. No team is coping with a strike rate that ruthless. It’s not all broke. Up the Spurs.
— Paul O Keefe (@pokeefe1) April 22, 2017
We weren’t the better side!
Let 4 goals in, got team selection wrong, never in front, and out managed on the subs. Simple!

Never have I see a match where the run of play and the final score were so misaligned.
— Liquid Spurs (@LiquidSpurs) April 22, 2017
If this Tottenham team doesn’t win trophies then there is something seriously wrong with the balance of our planet.

We were not the never the better side. Ponchettino got it wrong son was a disaster at left wing back – why no Davies no rose why is rose not playing r they selling him.? NEVER CHANGE A WINNING SIDE disn’t anyone tell the argentine that what nonsense.
WE STILL HAVE NOT DEVELOPED THE KILLER INSTINCT. Loris was hopeless in goal and hazard all the time to settle shoot and score.
SPURS HAVE GOT TO BE RUTHLESS AND MENTALLY STRONG- must bounce back hard amnd finish season strong. We need to but quality players not deadbeats like Sisko or Jansen although he has shown promise.
WEMBLEY WAS ALWAYS OUR HOME WE WERE FEARED THERE BY TEAMS NOW WE HAVE TO SEE WEMBLEY AS OUR HOME ON A BIGGER SCALE FORGET JINX OR CROWD POSITY JUST PLAY THERE AS WE DO AT THE LANE WEEK IN WEEK OUT! Fear no one and believe every match is s final and we are invincible – DO NOT BE REARFUL BE CONFIDENT.
Time for the argy to get players focussed strong mentally and ruthless that is how you win – NO INCN NO QUARTER!!!
Sorry. But feel Poch should have selected same players and position of those players as previous games. Only change if it is not working I.e. Son out of position. Walker should have started… why change a winning formula. My opinion ….
