Tottenham want to sign Monaco’s Thomas Lemar this summer but face strong competition from fierce rivals Arsenal, according to reports in France.

The winger is valued at at around £25 million by Monaco, who are believed to be willing to let Lemar leave if they recieve a bid in excess of that figure.

Spurs have had the opportunity to watch Lemar closely this season having faced Monaco twice in the Champions League — the 21-year-old scored in both games.

L’Equipe claims Tottenham face a battle with Arsenal for Lemar’s signature. The report suggests the Gunners’ lack of Champions League football is irrelevant as it strengthens their chances of winning the title.

Of course, that doesn’t mean Spurs won’t try to convince Lemar he should be playing for a Champions League club. Juventus are also said to be monitoring the player’s situation.

Lemar is reportedly one of five names on Mauricio Pochettino’s summer shortlist alongside Ross Barkley, Adam Smith, Harry Maguire and Ryan Sessegnon.
