There was a lot of rotation in Tottenham’s defence last season. Injuries meant Mauricio Pochettino often had to change things at the back, switching formations and personnel on what felt like a regular basis.

One player who failed to get much game-time, however, was Kevin Wimmer. The Austrian was clearly out of favour from the beginning of the campaign and struggled to break into the starting eleven all year.

A lack of other options meant Wimmer had to play in big matches at Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City, and the 24-year-old didn’t make enough of an impression to stay in the team.

Inevitably, he’s now being linked with a move away from the club this summer. According to The Mirror, Southampton are keen on signing Wimmer but have been put off by Spurs’ £20 million valuation.

Wimmer would probably be a decent signing for the Saints. He isn’t a bad player, but he’s certainly not worth £20 million. This one has a good chance of happening if Southampton can negotiate a lower price.
