Tottenham are confident Toby Alderweireld will sign a new contract with the club soon, according to The Telegraph.

Journalist John Percy shares the news in a story about Spurs offering Kieran Trippier a new deal amid uncertainty over Kyle Walker’s future.

At the bottom of the report, Percy claims: “Negotiations have also been underway with Belgium international Toby Alderweireld for some time, with the club still optimistic of striking a deal.”

Alderweireld was linked with a move to Inter Milan towards the backend of last season, when rumours suggested the 28-year-old could be on the move this summer.

Apparently the Belgian believes he should be on the same money as Tottenham’s top earners. Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane are both believed to earn in excess of £100,000-a-week.

Most Spurs fans would agree that Alderweireld deserves to be on similar money given his performances over the last two seasons. The sooner Tottenham tie him down, the better.

  1. Not sure I would say he is AS important as the other 2 but obviously he is important he is our best defensive player and a key to our defensive sides so if he is committed to the club I’m sure the club will commit the necessary funds to get the job done
