The defender emerged as Spurs’ first choice right-back towards the end of last season, taking the place of Kyle Walker who joined Manchester City last week.
Doubts were raised over Walker’s fitness and commitment to the team last term, giving Trippier the chance to nail down a place in Tottenham’s starting line-up.

His new deal, which has been in the pipeline for weeks now, demonstrates the trust Mauricio Pochettino has in the 26-year-old. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news.

Delighted for Trippier. So many are using him to push their own agenda (about a new RB) but his improvement/performances deserve huge credit

Trippier only played 566 minutes & 17 games less than Walker yet still finished joint with most assists for a defender in the PL. ??#THFC

Trippier deal well earned. Let’s not make the same mistake as when Rose signed his first contract renewal & a lot of fans were underwhelmed

Timing of Trippier contract extension is a huge vote of confidence. Further example of good man management by Pochettino (and Levy) #thfc
