Tottenham have begun talks with Ajax over a move for defender Davinson Sanchez, according to multiple reports in the English press.

The Telegraph claims talks are “thought to have taken place over a £30m switch” for the 21-year-old centre-back who was named Ajax Player of the Year at the end of last season.

Sanchez helped Ajax to the Europa League final last term, where they lost to Manchester United. He has been capped twice by Colombia.

The Sun also reports talks are underway between Ajax and Spurs. They suggest the defender is valued at £35 million.

(A previous version of this article claimed Davinson Sanchez was Dutch. That’s obviously not the case — he is Colombian.)

Below you can watch Sanchez score a stunning overhead kick against AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie last season.

  1. More to the point, should we be buying a centre-back before we have sorted the right-back position out? Do we even need a centre-back? And did we just turn down £20m for Wimmer from Southampton? (as reported earlier in the day).

  2. Would prefer Dijk (Wrongly Spelt ) the pony tailed Southampton Centre Back in a swap for Wimmer whom Southampton are interested in .
