After a uneventful first half, Tottenham’s opening weekend visit to Newcastle United sparked into life straight after the break at St James’ Park.

Dele Alli was involved in slight altercation with Jonjo Shelvey when the Spurs midfielder, already down on the turf, appeared to suddenly yelp in pain.

The referee almost instantly produced a red card and Shelvey was sent to the stands.

Replays clearly show the Newcastle captain stamped on Alli’s foot.

Usually it’s Alli himself who gets wound up by opposition players, but thankfully for Tottenham the 21-year-old knows how to get under the skin of opponents.
