Ajax have informed star defender Davinson Sanchez that they do not intend to sell him to Tottenham this summer, according to Sky Sports.
Last week, ESPN and other outlets claimed Spurs were confident of securing a club-record £35 million deal for Sanchez.
Sky Sports also claims Tottenham are interested in signing the 21-year-old centre-back but a deal is still some way off.
Now, an Ajax spokesperson has told Sky: “Last year Sanchez signed a five-year contract and we don’t want to let him go.
“That’s what (sporting director) Marc Overmars has told the player and his agents. He is a great player who is very important for us. Next to that, we never comment on rumours regarding transfers.”
The good news for Spurs is that Sanchez reportedly only wants to join the north Londoners despite rumoured interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid.
Reports in Holland suggest Sanchez made that decision following talks with Mauricio Pochettino earlier in the summer.
The same story claims Ajax have already rejected a £35m bid from Tottenham. It will be interesting to see if Spurs think Sanchez is worth in excess of that fee.
