Serge Augier claims he could have stayed at Paris Saint-Germain and earned more money, but he chose to join Tottenham instead.
Spurs signed the Ivory Coast international on deadline day for a fee or £23 million.
In an interview with the African Football Federation, Aurier suggested that he could have signed a new three-year deal with PSG that was on the table last season.
“If money had been the most important thing,” he said, “I would have stayed in Paris.”
The 24-year-old is in line to make his first appearance for Tottenham against Everton on Saturday.
