Harry Redknapp has admitted Tottenham came close to signing Eden Hazard before he joined Chelsea.
The former Spurs manager has mentioned that Hazard was a target for Spurs in the past.
But now Redknapp has revealed to BT Sport (via The Mirror) he travelled to France to meet the Belgian when he was a Lille player.
“I went to France and met him in a hotel room,” said Redknapp. “I was with him for three hours….that’s probably why he didn’t sign!
“I could have had him at Tottenham. We wanted him but the club didn’t get the deal done.”
Hazard went on to join Chelsea in 2012 – it’s unlikely Spurs would have been able to afford his wages anyway.
Tottenham face Real Madrid in the Champions League this week. Hazard has been linked with a move to the La Liga giants a number of times over the years.
Meanwhile, former Spurs attacker Gareth Bale has been ruled out of Wednesday’s clash through injury.
We have known all of this for a long time. Redknapp won’t shut up about It!
