Tottenham have revealed Victor Wanyama will start “fieldwork training” this week ahead of his return from a knee injury.

The midfielder had a limited pre-season because of a separate injury before suffering a knee problem in the defeat to Chelsea at Wembley in August.

He hasn’t played since then, and there were fears he would spend an extended spell on the sidelines.

But the club has announced Wanyama is set to get back on the training pitch this week. Whether he will take part in full training with his teammates is unclear.

Spurs face Crystal Palace on Sunday before the international break. After that, it’s the North London derby – if things go as planned, there’s a good chance Wanyama will be available against Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Tottenham face Real Madrid in the Champions League at Wembley tonight. You can see our predicted starting line-up here.

  1. Victor Wanyama was my stand out player last season. Having him back and fully fit would be a fantastic addition to our squad
