Dele Alli has withdrawn from the England squad and won’t play for his country in friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

The 21-year-old missed Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday after picking up a hamstring injury.

Spurs fans are fearing he will unavailable for the North London derby against Arsenal in just under two weeks’ time.

But Mauricio Pochettino has provided a promising update.

“Dele Alli against Manchester United finished the game feeling his posterior tendon, close to the hamstring, and then played 90 minutes against Real Madrid,” said the Argentine after the Palace game. (Quotes via London Evening Standard.)

“It’s a very, very, very small thing. It was a massive risk (to play him) again. We’re sure he’ll be ready for Arsenal (after the international break). We hope he’s going well in the next few weeks and will be available.”

Alli came alive with two goals against Real Madrid following a mixed start to the season, so the timing of his injury is rather unfortunate.

Hopefully he returns for the derby and picks up where he left off.
