Jan Vertonghen is the latest Tottenham player to be ruled out for his country through injury during the current international break.

The defender has an ankle problem and will play no part in Belgium’s match against Mexico on Friday night.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez was optimistic when asked about the extent of Vertonghen’s injury.

“Jan won’t be in the team tomorrow. He is suffering a little pain in the ankle, but it isn’t serious,” said Martinez. (Quotes via Evening Standard.)

That certainly bodes well ahead of the North London derby, Spurs’ next match after the international break.

Harry Winks, Harry Kane and Dele Alli have already withdrawn from the England squad, while Hugo Lloris is absent for France.

Hopefully they will all be fresh and ready for Arsenal.
