It was quite the week for Eric Dier, who captained England for the first time in friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
The Tottenham midfielder shielded the back five effectively against Germany last week. He looked a little rusty against Brazil’s tricky attack, but thankfully the Three Lions weren’t punished.
After the Brazil game, the 23-year-old demonstrated a rather unique ability.
As posted by journalist @JackLang on Twitter, Dier spoke to a number of overseas reporters in fluent Portuguese.

Of course, Dier grew up in Portugal – Spurs signed him from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in 2014 – but it’s jarring to hear an English footballer speaking a different language so comfortably.
