Chelsea paid agent fees of around £7 million on top of the initial £15 million fee for Ross Barkley, according to The Times.

Tottenham were heavily linked with Barkley in the summer, but Mauricio Pochettino is believed to prefer other targets this month – that is apparently why Spurs gave Chelsea a free run at the midfielder.

Of course, that might not be the full story. Including agent fees, Chelsea ended up paying £22 million for Barkley, whose Everton contract was set to expire this summer.

If Spurs were still in for the 24-year-old earlier this month, Daniel Levy likely balked at those figures.

Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes continues to be touted as a potential alternative.

  1. We need 2 midfield enforcers. Dier is Dier. Victor will take time to come back. Also a new striker plus 1 new left back. Sell Rose. Goodness me we need a new team.
