Tottenham travel to League Two side Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup this weekend, and Mauricio Pochettino has a number of decisions to make regarding his team selection.

Toby Alderweireld, Danny Rose, Serge Aurier and Harry Winks are all out of contention, while Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela and Hugo Lloris will be assessed before the game.

Lloris probably won’t be risked, giving Michel Vorm the chance to start consecutive matches for Spurs.

At the back, Pochettino is likely to pair either Jan Vertonghen or Davinson Sanchez with Juan Foyth. I’ve gone with Sanchez – Vertonghen has played a lot of football recently.

Further forward, injuries may give 17-year-old Tashan Oakley-Boothe an opportunity to feature in the line-up. The teenager was photographed training with the first team this week.

For a bit of insurance, Pochettino started Harry Kane against AFC Wimbledon in the previous round. I think he’ll be rested for this one, but perhaps Heung-Min Son will start instead. He was substituted after 70 minutes at Southampton last weekend.

Eriksen played no part against Southampton, so he may also start if he has fully recovered from illness.

Here’s our predicted XI to face Newport – what’s yours? Let us know in the comments.

  1. why risk an upset play our strongest 11 this is the f.a cup ffs we need to win something the league has gone the carrier bag cup has gone why chuck this away utter madness

    • I get your point – we really do need to win anything this season – but this is Newport County we’re on about and we’re in good form so I think we can risk a few squad players playing.

      Vorm;
      Tripps, Foyth, Sanchez, Walker Peters;
      Sissoko, Wanyama;
      Lamela, Oakley Booth;
      Llorente, Son;

  2. Agreed, the fa cup has a long list of “upsets” and we could easily join it if we are foolish enough to start a
    marginally weaker eleven. Newport will be out for blood, tackling like terriers and paying no attention to
    big reputations. Poch would be wise to ignore temptation start a strong eleven, get a few goals ahead then he can rest his stars. Remember little Torquay tied Spurs in the sixties when we fielded one of our strongest ever teams.

  3. Play a strongish 11, put the game out of reach early on and plan for the tough run.

    Gazzanigga
    Aurier
    Sanchez
    Wanyama
    Rose ?
    Lamela
    Sissoko
    Dier
    Son
    Eriksen
    Llorente

    Please please please buy two skilful midfielders in January.

    We lost the league the last two seasons because we relied on the same squad.
    Had we of strengthened we’d of been back to back champions! !
